The Beautiful Door of Hinge

The Gate of Bisagra is considered to be the most important in the city, both because of its location and its dimensions.

Located in the city walls of Toledo. It is of Moslem origin, of whose time it conserves rest in the second interior body. Its name derives from the Arabic word Bab-Shagra, that means "Door of the Sagra". It was completely rebuilt under the reigns of Charles V and Philip II.

It is formed by two independent bodies with two high crenellated walls that unite them, forming a courtyard between them, where is a statue of Charles V. The external side is formed by a half-point arch with padded blocks, on which is located a great shield of the "Imperial City", with its unmistakable two-headed eagle, as well as a pediment with a sculpture of a guardian angel.

Flank this entrance two large circular turrets.
The body that faces the city has another round arch door, flanked by two square towers topped by pyramidal roofs.

It is not the last door that you must flank to reach the center of the city, because depending on where you go up the street you will find other much smaller ones, such as the door of the Sun and the door of the Christ of the Lights, the latter next to the mosque of the same name.
